“I would like to thank Dr. Politzer and his great staff for giving me the ability to see things that I have never seen before. The new technology is great and now I can see. Thank you for giving me my sight and life back.”

“My eye exercises have really helped me. My eyes are stronger and I have less fatigue. I can now read without skipping or rereading words.”

“Dr. Politzer has been my eye doctor for about 15 years. His extensive training and knowledge in the field of low vision turned what seemed to be a hopeless situation for me into a very manageable and pleasant outcome.

During my teen years, I was told by more than one eye doctor that I would never be able to drive because of my vision and that I would always be dependent on someone else. As a teen, this news was devastating. However, I received a referral to see Dr. Politzer. He informed me that the news I had received previously was not the case. He introduced me to the technology of the bioptic. He and his staff trained me in the use of the bioptic and saw me through the process of acquiring my driver’s license. Over the years, Dr. Politzer has continued to play a vital role in my ability to keep my driver’s license by overseeing my eye condition and completing all the necessary paperwork that the state requires.

Dr. Politzer, thank you for your continued dedication and concern for each of your patients. Your willingness and initiative to make advances in the field of low vision has changed many, many lives. I thank God that I have had the opportunity to be one whose life has been changed by your practice!”

“I have glaucoma and macular degeneration and in September 2009 I was declared legally blind by my glaucoma specialist. At that point, I decided to give up my car. My vision has become progressively worse over the course of the past year and I was beginning to feel that my vision was going to cause me to lose my independence and change my quality of living. My balance was affected and I was having difficulty reading (which I love) and working on my computer. After seeking help from another low vision specialist, I felt more hopeless because the recommendations did not help me overcome the barriers that I was facing. Dr. Politzer was then recommended to my daughter and I saw him for the first time a month ago.  After a thorough assessment, he told me I could be hopeful.  He said that he could improve my depth perception through corrective, prism glasses and prescribed an additional pair for reading and computer activities. When I looked through the first pair (the ones for distance), I was astounded at how much better I could see. The other pair is for reading and computer work and has improved my ability to enjoy these activities again. He also gave me a list of eye exercises to do once a day to strengthen my eyes and to help my balance.  I do the exercises religiously and I have noticed an improvement in my balance and perception.  As I told Dr. Politzer today, I wish I had known about him sooner.  All I can say is “HOORAY, that my daughter found him! “

“Giving up driving and reading means giving up a large part of one’s independence. As my vision deteriorated due to a rare genetic disease, I gradually had to adapt many things and give up others like driving and reading for pleasure.

I went to see Dr. Michael Politzer at the recommendation of my retina specialist to see what aids were available to help me read and do daily activities. Dr. Politzer worked his magic, as he has done for over 35 years. NEVER did I think I could see as well as I am now. I am totally amazed at how my new glasses help compensate for areas of distortion and blindness. With my everyday glasses I am driving again and seeing better than I have in a long time. My special reading glasses allow me to read just about anything. I feel like I have been given an enormous gift – even my retina specialist called it a “miracle”. Thank you, Dr. Politzer, for giving me back my independence.”

“I had a brain stem hemorrhage in 1990 that left me with double vision. My regular optometrist told me that there was nothing that he could do. I heard of Dr. Politzer through a occupational therapist friend of mine in 1997.She had been to one of his seminars where he talked of helping people like me, with double vision. I went to him and he fitted me with prism glasses that eliminate my double vision! Everything looks so much better! My prism glasses, along with some vision therapy exercises that I do, are also improving my eyesight daily. Now I can look at thing as they truly are, thanks to Dr. Politzer. He sincerely cares and is a trusted friend!”

“I have had macular degeneration since birth. In addition to this condition I am severely nearsighted and have a pronounced astigmatism. Because of the macular degeneration it is impossible to correct my nearsighted vision. I am considered legally blind and since I was old enough to know that a person needed a driver’s license to drive, I thought that I would never drive.

In mid 1996 at the age of 26 I had my first exam with Dr. Politzer. At the end of that first exam he informed me that I qualified to use a bioptic lens for driving. Needless to say I was excited and skeptical at the same time. After further testing and training with my driving glasses, I was able to take and pass my driver’s license test in December of 1996.

There is not a day that goes by that I don’t reflect on the fact that I now am allowed to drive. The freedom that this privilege affords is one that I cherish.

Doctor Politzer is caring and personable. His dedication to evaluating and maintaining my eye health is second to none. I am blessed to have him as my eye care professional.”

“I suffered an embolism to the brain resulting in paralysis to my left side. My left side vision was also affected. I also acquired some liability, i.e., the loss of emotional control. Dr. Politzer came to the Skilled Nursing Facility during my rehabilitation and quoted Jer. 29:11 to me during my first consultation.

After my discharge I continued seeing Dr. Politzer. He gave me hope along with some eye exercises to do. He fitted me with two pair of new glasses for near and far vision. After a few months of exercises and visits I have regained the ability to read and to work crossword puzzles.

My husband and I are thankful to Dr. Politzer for his encouragement and knowledge. He is a very intelligent man with a genuine interest in his patients.”

“I loved to read. Then my eyesight started getting bad. I’d be able to see for a half-second, and then I couldn’t. I didn’t want to live with that. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I hoped that it wouldn’t last, and I’d be able to read and do things on my own again.

I underwent several laser surgeries that failed to stop the degeneration of my eyesight. Then, I was referred to Dr. Politzer.

I didn’t know what he was going to be able to do for me. I couldn’t believe it when he told me he could help me. The first thing I said was Oh, thank God.

I am now able to read with my new custom made glasses. I don’t get headaches anymore and I can read newsprint. I can sit up all night and read if I want to. I can read my own mail and do my embroidery. But, most important, I have control of my life again.”

“I am so thankful I was sent to Dr. Politzer. I have macular degeneration and have been to some of the best doctors in Nashville, had shots put in my eyes but I could not see how to drive. My husband had a mini stroke so we were soon to be at home all the time. Then Dr. Awh told me about Dr. Politzer. I was thrilled to death; He could fit my eyes with special glasses. I was able to drive the car and could see the lights were red and green, and the names of the streets. I cried when I saw a bird sitting on an electric wire. It has been about 5 years now. I would tell anyone to go see Dr. Michael Politzer. Now I drive with my special license to drive. I am so thankful to Dr. Awh but most of all, I am thankful for the care and concern and help that Dr. Michael Politzer gives his patients.”

“My son suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2006. Due to his closed head trauma he has visual field loss. Dr. Politzer prescribed him glasses which have doubled his field of vision. We are so thankful to Dr. Politzer for this improvement to help with his mobility and closer to his goal of independence.”

“I am 42 and have had low vision my whole life. Having lived in several different areas of the country, I’ve been to many eye doctors over the years. I have seen Dr. Politzer since the middle ‘90s.

Although my vision has been stable throughout my life, there have been a couple bumps in the road. In 1997 (a month before my wedding), I contracted a serious eye infection. Through this ordeal, Dr. Politzer’s care could not have been more on target, compassionate and thorough. Last month, I somehow managed to acquire corneal abrasions on both eyes. This was a very painful condition. Like always, Dr. Politzer provided care in a way that communicated both confidence and genuine concern for my eye health. In both of those cases, he attended to my needs during non-office hours, and provided treatment that led to swift recovery.

I have known Dr. Politzer for over 15 years. His demeanor conveys empathy, expertise and devotion to the needs of his patients. When I think about the care I receive from him, I feel gratitude and confidence in placing my low vision eye health in his care”.

“In 2005 I was hit by a drunk driver and received third nerve palsy eye injury in my left eye. I’ve been to several eye specialists, but none of them seemed to be able to help me see better.

I was referred to Dr. Politzer and he has helped me so much with the eye exercises he instructed me to do and with him prescribing the glasses with a prism.

He is a very nice doctor and I am very lucky to have him for my eye care. Lisa is great too. They both know what they are doing and do an excellent job at it! After about 2 or 2 ½ weeks I started noticing I could see a little more out of the left side of my left eye, all because of the prism and the eye exercises Dr. Politzer instructed me to do! Now both of my eyes are slowly learning to work together again!

A nice big smile with eyes opened wide with a pat on the back to Dr. Politzer with a nice box of no-bake cookies for him and Lisa to share!”

“Due to retinitis pigmentosa, my peripheral vision had declined to a field where I was no longer comfortable driving. The decision to stop driving and then to sell my car was the most difficult decision I had to make. I really thought that I would never drive again. I joked with my wonderful hubby of 30 years that if a cure was found, I wanted a convertible. We never dreamed that one day technology would allow me to drive again.

When we heard Dr. Politzer speak at a Foundation Fighting Blindness vision symposium (sponsored by the local chapter), we were all ears. Did he say that I could possibly drive again? No way, right? Wrong! Thanks to Dr. Politzer, his awesome staff, and his bioptic telescope technology, I am able to drive again.

I am still so nervous when I drive but I guess that is a good thing. Funny thing happened the first time I drove by myself. When I felt relaxed enough I turned on the radio. It was a rock channel my husband had been listening to and Free Bird was playing by Lyndrd Skynrd! I felt like a free bird. Your technology has transformed our lives. It is truly opening a ton of opportunities for us.”

“I am a 39 year old visually impaired woman who became legally blind at the age of 21. I had to stop driving and doing most all things people take for granted. My eye doctor said there was nothing more he could do. I met Dr. Politzer about 4 years ago. He asked me what was the most important thing I would like to do again? I decided to challenge him and said, I want to be able to drive. He introduced me to a special optical aid and began to work with me on using his bioptic telescope. Today I can drive and with the help of the visual aid and Dr. Politzer, am now totally independent.”
